Mastro's Steakhouse - Chicago - Chicago

.Known for big portions, delicious drinks, and a glittering crowd, Mastro’s Steakhouse is the restaurant to go to when you’re looking to impress…and eat very well. The two-story steakhouse sets the scene with dark wood paneling, white tablecloths, and plush carpets. Its location in the heart of Chicago’s nightlife hub makes it the perfect place to see and be seen, so come prepared for decadence. It will be well worth your time, as “the value’s there in the top-quality steaks,” says Phil Vettel of “Chicago Tribune,” adding that he appreciates “the beyond-generous cocktail and wine pours.”

You’re spoiled for choice on the cocktail menu. Mastro’s Steakhouse provides a wide range of classic and original concoctions to get your evening started on the right note. Whether you prefer the timeless martini, garnished with caper berries or a blue cheese-stuffed olive, or like to sweeten things up with the Bananas Foster, made with rum, brown sugar syrup, and banana puree, you will not be left thirsty.

The wine selection is equally robust, with over 50 wines available by the glass. While there are ample sparkling and white options, the list leans into steak’s best pairing with an incredible collection of red varietals. For the table, you may want to go in on a bottle from the California-focused menu.

No matter your beverage of choice, the steaks are the stars of the show at Mastro’s Steakhouse. Wet-aged for 28 days, the top grade steaks come in a variety in cuts with something to match any appetite. The dainty petite filet is the smallest at 8 ounces, while the double cut porterhouse weighs in at 48 ounces – a dish for true steak lovers. The “Chef’s Cut” New York strip and bone-in Kansas City strip are excellent options for a wholly fulfilling (get it?) steak dinner.

Regardless of cut, Mastro’s Steakhouse delivers beef of consistent quality. Each order is served very hot; you won’t find any room-temp slabs here. The steaks are dry-rubbed and topped, by default, with butter to ramp up the lushness. Other dressings are available, and your server will be happy to run through the options to make sure your steak is exactly to your liking. Peppercorn crust, Gorgonzola sauce, and crab cake a la Oscar are just a few of the choices that can help you customize your meal.

What is a steak dinner without potatoes? In Chicago, it’s illegal (just kidding). Mastro’s Steakhouse recognizes that steak and potatoes belong together and has 8 different potato preparations that can be enjoyed as sides (or main courses, if you’re – gasp – vegetarian). You can go the steak frites route with French fries, or perhaps scalloped potatoes are more to your taste. A one-pound baked potato will satisfy the famous Chicago meat-and-potatoes appetite. However, we recommend allowing yourself the ultimate indulgence: lobster mashed potatoes. This king of sides is rich, creamy, and the worthy complement to a juicy steak, giving you a kind of wonderful surf n’ turf.

Beyond the steaks, the Mastro’s Steakhouse menu lists flavorful and thoughtful seafood and meat dishes that will round out your dinner. Sushi rolls, developed exclusively for Mastro’s Steakhouse, are a fresh and fun way to supplement your steak. Intriguing flavors are combined with the highest-quality fish to create the maguro lime roll, with tempura tuna, curry oil, ponzu sauce, and fresh avocado.

If steak isn’t on your mind, fish, lamb, and pork will make an excellent meal. Chilean sea bass, Scottish salmon, and grilled swordfish will tempt even the heartiest carnivore, or consider a a serving of surf with Alaskan king crab legs, or perhaps the Maine lobster. The rack of lamb has “spot-on seasoning,” says “Time Out Chicago,” and the double cut pork chop is tender and perfectly cooked. Whatever you choose to order, you’ll end the meal in the happy haze of a satisfied stomach.

Still, no luxurious meal is complete without dessert, and Mastro’s Steakhouse has a finale you won’t want to skip. There’s no lack of sweet options to choose from on the menu, but for a very good reason, the warm butter cake is their signature dessert . Deceptively simple, stuffed with rich flavor, this confection is served with a scoop of ice cream and a heavenly helping of housemade whipped cream. You’ll want to plan ahead and leave some stomach real estate for this unmatched finisher.

Mastro’s Steakhouse seeks to surpass expectations in every category, from the high level steaks, flavorful sides, and flowing drinks. With impeccable service to answer your every wish, you’ll enjoy every indulgent bite.
